This artwork is created from the exterior part of a branch from an ancient, desiccated oak tree. Its outlines and natural form evoke a Venetian grotesque mask, the head of a mystical bird with a long beak. Aged no less than 200 years, it possesses a mystical gaze that comes to life in the light of a candle. The shape of the head, the relief, the contours—all are conceived by nature. It's remarkable that such a thing is possible. The surface has been treated with wax and gilding.
