The Christmas Tree
Crafted from preserved fragments of a 300-year-old oak, this sculpture forms a vertical, tiered silhouette. With candles lit, the piece reads as a stylized Christmas tree — though many viewers also see the shape of a sailboat catching the wind, a reading that feels especially natural in coastal cities like Miami. The oak’s deep texture is treated with wax and subtle gold accents, highlighting three centuries of natural relief. A steel axis anchors the composition and reinforces its upward movement.

The wood comes from three-hundred-year-old oaks that grew in the historic lands where Napoleon passed during his 1812 campaign and wrote a letter to Josephine.
