Sacred Oak
Dimensions: 28 × 8 × 20 in
Weight: ~20 lbs

Sacred Oak is crafted from a section of a three-hundred-year-old oak trunk, its inner surface charred by a lightning strike. In ancient traditions, trees touched by lightning were regarded as sacred — marked by a sign from above. The burn pattern preserved within the wood gives the piece the presence of a natural ritual artifact.

Eight candles stand in a single line, while the forward-placed shamash becomes the focal point of rising light above the dark, fire-scarred oak. The contrast of gold and charred texture reinforces the theme of illumination emerging from darkness — the essence of the Hanukkah symbol.

The base, made from the same ancient wood, unites the composition into a single form that carries both memory and the quiet breath of nature.

The wood comes from three-hundred-year-old oaks that grew in the historic lands where Napoleon passed during his 1812 campaign and wrote a letter to Josephine.
