This sculpture is created from the core of an ancient oak trunk. In the hands of the artist, the natural vertical form transforms into a tribute to the Royal Clock Tower of the Abraj Al-Bait complex in Mecca. The crescent at the top highlights the architectural silhouette, while the composition of oil candles at different heights echoes the surrounding towers of the complex. The surface of the oak is treated with wax and light gilding. The stand is made of Siberian larch.
The wood comes from three-hundred-year-old oaks that grew in the historic lands where Napoleon passed during his 1812 campaign and wrote a letter to Josephine.
