Maccabee Flames
Dimensions: 41 × 11 × 18 in
Weight: approx. 20 lbs
Maccabee Flames is crafted from a section of a fallen spruce trunk marked by the natural carvings of bark beetles. These organic patterns resemble ancient inscriptions, giving the wood the character of a preserved relic.
Nine candle holders rise above the carved surface, forming a clear Hanukkiah structure. The shamash, placed forward in accordance with tradition, leads the remaining lights — echoing the spirit of the Maccabees, whose courage and faith brought the miracle of Hanukkah.
A protective wax finish and subtle golden accents highlight the natural rhythm of the wood, allowing the flames to animate its texture. The base, made from aged Siberian larch, grounds the composition while preserving its ritual presence.
A sculptural piece that bridges nature, history, and Jewish memory.
The wood comes from three-hundred-year-old oaks that grew in the historic lands where Napoleon passed during his 1812 campaign and wrote a letter to Josephine.
